FAQ's

  • Do I have to be flexible to practice yoga?

No. You do not have to be flexible to practice yoga. A yoga practice starts from where you are in your body, while you are learning what yoga is, its principles of alignment and poses, it helps to cultivate flexibility in your body and mind as you keep up your practice.

  • I have limitations in my legs; can I still practice yoga?

Yes. You can absolutely practice yoga with any limitation in your body. There are modifications you could be offered in order for you to still get the maximum benefits for almost any pose, which include chair yoga, using props such as bolsters, blocks, straps and other useful tools to support your physical practice.

  • I have asthma and understand I have to breathe a lot in yoga. Can I still practice yoga with asthma?

Yes. You can still practice yoga even if you have asthma. While yoga can provide some relief to asthma symptoms, it is not meant to provide asthma therapy.

  • Can I practice yoga if I’m pregnant?

Yes. There are prenatal yoga programs available. Check your community yoga studios for more information on prenatal yoga classes.

  • Is yoga a religion?

No. Yoga is not a religion. It is a philosophy that began in India 5,000 years ago. Yoga sometimes interweaves other philosophies such as Hinduism or Buddhism, but it is not necessary to study those paths in order to practice or study yoga. It is NOT necessary for you to surrender your own religious beliefs to practice yoga. Yoga precepts are TRULY universal; i.e, compassion, honesty, contentment, & integrity, making yoga a purely personal practice, taking from it what YOU need.
